How CICA tariff awards are calculated
The CICA scheme pays fixed statutory tariffs ranging from £1,000 to £250,000 for physical and psychological injuries caused by crimes of violence in England, Wales, and Scotland.
Under the statutory multiple injury formula, you receive 100% of the tariff for the most serious injury, 30% for the second, and 15% for the third, subject to an overall £500,000 maximum.
Worked example: CICA violent assault claim
A victim suffering a serious assault with Band 7 facial injury (£11,000) and Band 4 wrist fracture (£3,800 at 30% = £1,140) who missed 36 weeks of work at £450 net weekly pay receives £12,140 in tariff compensation and £3,600 in loss of earnings (8 weeks after the 28-week statutory threshold), for a total CICA award of £15,740.

What is the time limit to apply for CICA compensation?
Under the 2012 Scheme, applications must generally be submitted within two years of the incident date, and the crime must have been reported to the police promptly.
Can I claim if the attacker was never identified or caught?
Yes. CICA compensation does not depend on the offender being caught, convicted, or tracked down, provided the incident was properly reported to the police.
