How lenders value portfolios
Lenders apply a lending value to each investment depending on its risk: often higher for government bonds and large diversified funds, lower for single shares, and nothing for some assets. The overall limit is a blend of these.
Worked example
A £100,000 portfolio with a 50% lending value could support borrowing of about £50,000.
The risk
If your investments fall, you may have to add money or the lender may sell holdings.
