What decides eligibility
For a gold loan, the gold itself is the main security, so the amount you can borrow depends mostly on its value and the lender's loan-to-value limit. Lenders value it by purity and weight and may test it before lending.
Lenders also set their own rules on who they lend to and may check your identity and circumstances. This calculator covers the value test only.
Worked example
With gold valued at £5,000, no existing borrowing and a 75% loan-to-value limit, you could borrow up to £3,750. Your equity in the gold is £5,000.
With £1,000 already borrowed against it, you could borrow £2,750 more and your equity would be £4,000.
Before you borrow
If you don't repay, the lender can sell your gold. Check the interest rate, the term and any fees, and use the gold loan calculator to see the repayments.
This is an estimate. Lenders make their own decision based on your full circumstances and credit history.
