How the maximum is worked out
The calculator reverses the usual loan formula: instead of turning a loan into a payment, it turns your payment into the loan it would repay at your rate and term.
Worked example
£250 a month at 7% over 5 years would repay about £12,625.50, with £2,374.50 of interest.
Before you apply
The rate you're offered can be higher than advertised, which lowers how much a payment can cover. Use the rate from your quote.
This is an estimate. Lenders make their own decision based on your full circumstances and credit history.
Inputs for the borrowing calculator personal loan
Monthly payment you can afford
What you could comfortably repay each month after your other outgoings.
Interest rate (per year)
The annual interest rate on your loan. The rate shown is only an example, so enter the rate from your quote.
Term
How many years you'd repay over. A longer term lets you borrow more for the same payment but costs more interest.
CALCULATOR QUESTIONS
Personal loan borrowing calculator questions
What's the maximum personal loan I can get?
It depends on what you can repay, your rate and the lender's limits. Enter an affordable payment above.
Why does the rate matter so much?
A higher rate means more of each payment goes on interest, so the same payment repays a smaller loan.
Do lenders have maximum loan sizes?
Yes, each lender sets its own minimum and maximum.
Is this a guarantee?
No. The lender decides.
